Asian bloggers to meet in Penang

The Star, Thursday September 16, 2010.

MALAYSIAN bloggers can soon rub shoulders with their Asian counterparts at an international blogger festival to be held for the first time in Malaysia next month.

More than 200 local bloggers and over 100 from Asia are expected to attend Blogfest.Asia at Wawasan Open University in Penang from Oct 1 to 3.

Blogfest.Asia committee chairman Khor Khan Khai said Penang was chosen for its unique culture, heritage and friendly people. It was held in Hong Kong last year.

“We can also promote our great selection of food to bloggers from other countries.” he told a press conference yesterday.

Khor encouraged all Malaysian bloggers to attend the gathering as there would be no registration fee “and the workshops and conference are free”.

The festival is aimed at promoting cross-border interactions between bloggers in the Asian region, while providing a platform to exchange experience and skills in the blogging world.

It is jointly organised by Dot.Asia organisation, a Hong Kong based non-profit organisation, and Malaysian Chinese blog Mybloggercon.com.

Khor said participants could gain valuable insight into the blogging world of countries such as China and Cambodia.

Highlights of the conference include the Malaysia Chinese Blog Award 2010 and Asia Blogger’s Choice Awards Night as well as talks by industry experts.

Participants can expect bloggers from Cambodia, Singapore, Vietnam, Mongolia, Philippines, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong while plans have also been made to invite famous bloggers such as Danny Choo and Kenny Sia.

Bloggers can register for the gathering at http://2010.blogfest.asia.
