Accident does happen…
Sorry that I have to interupt the normal flow of the smoothriver for this unfortunate event:
I sent my brother to work this morning. A very uneventful morning it seemed at the beginning. About half a kilo before arriving at his office. We were stuck at a T-junction and we were on the main road trying to turn into a minor. The traffic on the opposite direction was jammed up due to morning rush. Well, just when I thought Bolehlanders were not curteous on the roads. The cars at the T-junction actually gave way for me to make my turn. I gave a thank you wave to the driver who made way for me. With a morning smile too.
Just when I was turning, there was this blur lady went straight towards my car with her motorbike. Lucky that she had minor scratches. There was a clinic 5 doors down, the doctor said she’s fine. But the front side of her bike was wrecked… and the left side of my car got major dents. I was glad that she is ok. And not glad that I am gonna have a major dent to my pocket too.
The blur lady… I think she was rushing to work. She works as a bank teller two kilos down the road (helped her to call her manager) and it was close to 9am. After talking to her, I found that she lives in a poor neighbourhood. Working as a bank teller, I know her pay is low. Its a bank after all. So I paid her clinic bill and motorbike repairs. I even sent her home. In her neighbourhood, the goverment pulled down the squatter houses and replaced them with ‘cheap’ flats. Cheap in terms of quality, not affordability. No a good place to stay and raise your kids.
The motorbike repair shop owner asked me if the blur girl was going really fast as the bent on the front shaft was rather serious. I don’t think she was really fast like 110 kph, 40 or 50kph perhaps. But she did not brake. She just went straight and bang! Gave a hell of a shock to my brother, he was sitting next to me. I would say the safety side-bars did work.
Well, the estimated cost for the unfortunate morning ride of 2.5 kilos is USD200 to 250. There goes a big chunk of this month’s salary. Damn, I can get an iPod with USD250. Damn damn, I forgot to take down the blur girl’s motorbike number.
oh shoot! what a day…
so sorry to read this unfortunate event. at least you helped her. add that to a few good karmas to collect.
