Back to Back Star Trek Marathon

Queen managed to find 2 copies of her Star Trek movies from her newly acquired HMS Warspite of the Queen Elizabeth class. Seriously, she just moved to a new place and her living area is like a wrecked bridge of USS Enterprise which has just been through a fierce battle with the Klingons.

“Wrath of Khan” and “The Search for Spock” were such a back to back weekend movie marathon materials. Ok, I admit, I am not only an Ikea sucker, I also sucked into the Star Trek universe too. Hmm… does that make me a Trekkie or a Trekker? Or just a plain Star Trek sucker? Hehehe.

Anyway, “Wrath of Khan” and “The Search for Spock” are back to back stories. Spock, the pointy ear logic vulcan guy, died in the first and lived again in the latter. Wonder of science? Hmm… there is something called “Genesis” involved for both his death and back-to-life. I shall not say more, watch them if you are curious. But if you don’t wanna watch them, you can read about them here and here.

The scripts for both movies were quite candid and William Shatner has put on much weight since then. There are some lines in the movies that I find hard to forget:

* * *
David Marcus: Lieutenant Saavik was right. You never have faced death.
Kirk: No. Not like this. I haven’t faced death. I’ve cheated death. I’ve tricked my way out of death and patted myself on the back for my ingenuity. I know nothing.
David Marcus: You knew enough to tell Saavik that how we face death is at least as important as how we face life.
Kirk: Just words.
David Marcus: But good words. That’s where ideas begin. Maybe you should listen to them. I was wrong about you. And I’m sorry.

* * *

[Spock, having saved the ship, is dying]
Kirk: Spock.
Spock: Ship… out of danger?
Kirk: Yes.
Spock: Don’t grieve, Admiral. It is logical. The needs of the many outweigh…
Kirk: …the needs of the few.
Spock: …Or the one. I never took the Kobayashi Maru test until now. What do you think of my solution?
Kirk: Spock…
Spock: I have been and always shall be your friend.
[Holds up his hand in the Vulcan salute]
Spock: Live long and prosper.

* * *

James T. Kirk: How much refit time is needed?
Montgomery Scott: Eight weeks, Sir, [Kirk opens his mouth] but ya don’t have eight weeks, so I’ll do it for ya in two.
James T. Kirk: Have you always multiplied your repair estimates by a factor of four?
Montgomery Scott: Certainly, Sir. How else can I keep my reputation as a miracle worker?
James T. Kirk: [over the intercom] You reputation is secure, Scotty.

By the way, don’t laugh at the special effects because they were made in the early 80′s. Pretty spectacular during that period. If you have a bottle of bad rum, try mix it with Sarsi and drink while you’re on the Star Trek marathon. I guarantee you will enjoy more! ;-)
