UP Mindanao Dancing

dance1.jpgTalking about I felt so “culture” in Davao compared to a similarly (big) Ipoh… It is true. On the eve of Stupid Cupid shooting the V Day arrow, the UP Mindanao (University of the Philippines Mindanao) Dance Ensemble was having a show in SM Mall, two floors above Jollibee. Yeeeee…

The Dance Ensemble is from Claire the Catty’s school. Her identical twin sisters are in the group. Yes, Claire the Catty has two younger twin sisters, Pearly the Pearl and Rosy the Rose. Armed with D100 and wide-angle lens, I tried various settings before the photos were ok for viewing (D100 don’t have the handy auto setting on the dial like the newer models) and have to do massive cropping (no zoom lens, sob sob…).

Tomorrow, Claire the Catty will involve in a poetry recital / choreography performance. She is not performing but she picked the poetry pieces and taking care of the stage setup. Wishing her all the best here!

dance2.jpgSigh… the Dance Ensemble reminded me of my 1st year in uni. I was stupid enough to join the team that was putting up a show to celebrate Chinese New Year in my uni. Too bad, my uni had a policy of No Western Iinstrument And Only Traditional (preferably Malay) Performance. Our pieces were consisting of poetry recitals, sketches, traditional Chinese dances and modern dances. Therefore, we had to rent a hall outside the uni to host the show.

I was in the modern dance team. I joined the team because of the dance teacher. Besides being a hot gal, the real reason that I joined is because she is a real instructor in a dance studio. The theme of that piece was Yellow dance5.jpgRiver and the Chinese civilisation. The guys were made to wear a bright yellow hot pants without anything else, and we have to put on a 2-meter long yellow pig-tail ribbon and wave the ribbons with our heads (supposed to represent the water of Yellow River)… And the girls were representing the farmers and fishers. Initially, we had a scene where the Water embraces the Fishers, meaning the guys had to lift the girls… My dance partner giggled whenever I hold her waist and most of guys didn’t have enough strength to lift the girls (or perhaps the girls were dance4.jpgoverweight. hehe). The scene was taken out after that. It was so embarrassing. Hey… why am I telling you this? Let’s go back to Davao. Bravo Pearly the Pearl and Rosy the Rose! Bravo Claire the Catty!

Remember Claire the Catty, don’t let the stupid bureaucrats make stupid policies that suppress the freedom to express yourselves!

And now the million dollar question… guess who are the twins in these photos…

If you found them… who’s Pearly the Pearl and who’s Rosy the Rose?

People say they look pretty much like Claire the Catty. Go figure… 😉
