Rant Baby Rant

visit.jpgDo I look like an idiot? Or do I look like a first time tourist to Malaysia?

Well, that what I felt when I arrived at KLIA two days ago. Someone at the airport tried to con me into getting a more expensive taxi ride back home.

I am not talking about the illegal taxi solicitor. I am talking about the official airport taxi people. You know, the company that monopolised the taxi service at our airport?

I used the airport many times. When KLIA first started, I encountered more illegal taxi solicitors. Then the number decreased and I am glad that recently, there was hardly anyone approached me for a taxi ride while I walked to the airport taxi counter. Not that I like the idea of the monopolised airport taxi service but… get what I mean?

But two nights ago, there was this fella, wearing a staff tag that rest on his big tummy instead of dangling from his neck, who blocked me and asked if I wanted a taxi. I noticed his tag and I trusted him to lead me to the airport taxi counter. You know, I was expecting the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 friendly to the travelers thingy. Instead, he was trying to lead me away from the taxi counter. Sensing something was wrong, I immediately stopped and asked him: “How much? I am looking for the budget taxi.”

Guess what he told me? He said: “RM90.” I gave him the “Duh!!! I ain’t that stupid!!!” look and told him “It should be cheaper! I am looking for budget taxi not limo”. He then got the gut to tell me that all taxis are the same and they are all the same price.

I was pissed. Then I ignored him like I ignored the illegal taxi solicitors before. Went straight to the airport taxi counter and saved myself more than RM30 by not taking the “limo”.

That’s all I want to rant tonight baby. Good night.

  1. Dear Sam, chill chill. Happened so many times to me elsewhere. Maybe because this “all-at-loss” kinda look. Next time, try to make yourself look “ferocious”. Worked for me. Well, good to be idiots sometimes. So 祝你节日快乐!LOL…

  2. happy April Fools’ Day

  3. really??? I wanna try when i go back… if there is someone approached me for the expensive taxi… I’ll take down the name… and I’ll make a complaint to the tourism board…. and see what the “smart-man” say… all the Taxi driver is liar…. wahahahahaa

    hey,sam,
did you check your email box?

  5. Welcome to malaysia, Is the time for me to slave your head down…( this s what taxi driver thinking on that time )

  6. The default taxi at the KLIA limo counter is the RM90 premium taxi. Everytime I get a limo there, the girl will say RM90 for PJ after which I have to correct her & say I want a budget limo.

This includes the many times when I was dressed like a slob & carrying a backpack.

  7. Hmm… Since they monopolised the service. Why don’t they just fixed the price like RM200 per taxi, no budget no limo no whatever. Like that, they don’t have to resort to conning people to a more expensive option in order to make more money. And fixing it at RM200 will make more money and people have no choice but to pay anyway. Right?

  8. Actually, if you increase the price, then alternatives will always exist. More ppl will catch the KLIA train & catch a taxi in Sentral, or make use of the taxi sapu, or blackmail their relatives/friends to fetch them from airport. Probably taxi sapu price will also increase because the official reference price also increase.

So don’t give the capitalists any bright ideas!

  9. If more people take KLIA train, then increase the price of KLIA train. If more people choose taxi sapu, then collude with the taxi sapu fler and share the profit. If more people choose to use their relatives/friends to fetch them, then increase petrol price and toll to the airport for private cars.

    Opps… am I talking too much? ;-)

  10. Yes!

If this happens, I’m going to start flying out of Singapura. The deluxe bus only costs about RM80 per trip.

  11. Singapura, oh Singapura…
Pretty island, set in the sea….

    Singapura, oh Singapura,
    Sing for you and me~

    Come~ Come~

You can visit Mandai Zoo, the Night Safari, Orchard Road and watch a show before you board your flight…

    :-)

    yay

  12. Ya hor! I love Changi Airport. The immigration officer greeted me when I gave my passport for him to stamp, and he asked me to pick a sweet at the counter. Courtesy of Singapore gahmen.

  13. Not to mention a 1 hour browse & drool session in Sim Lim Square

  14. some say Funan Center also not bad one.

  15. stopover in Singapore is such a fun thing to do~

give it time, we can stopover in Iskandar too~

  16. Iskandar… the Johor MSC lor.

  17. ha, did i hear “night safari”?!!! singapore? singapura?that definitely turns me on!

what about shuttle buses, if not budget limo? cheaper?

man, i was still planning on a short get-away in Malaysia with Viv before…

  18. you mean the Singaporean implementation of Malaysia’s MSC?

  19. Jue: come come~~ we bring you to the isle of fun!!

and catch the birds flying in Marina South with your new lens.

    hahaha~

  20. Not MSC concept meh? or Johor punya Putrajaya…? I am confuse leh. But definitely sounds like a big property development project that allow Singapore and Hong Kong people to buy.

Jue, come come before the price of everything go up. Hehe.

  21. Jue, I believe Jerry means the night safari next to the Mandai Zoo, not the one in Bugis.

  22. Viv and I definitely deserve a holiday~~

Cuz before that I need to grade 53 papers, vigilate one exam, etc.Etc. and get my passport renewed. Viv has to spend a lot of quality time with her pets in the lab. So sick of the work ethic.

Thanks for inviting us over. Looking forward to Malaysia, truly Asia~~

  23. Malaysia is truely Malaysia… Asia? Perhaps when you go shopping for souvenirs… nearly all come from neighbouring countries.

  24. yeah, that’s what the preferred meaning is to ordinary audience who watch the “Malaysia, truly Asia”. but come to think of the protected territories/nature reserves in your country…are they truly Malaysia?

maybe i’ll just photograph the scenery, turn them into postcards (can we do that in malaysia?), and send them back to friends at home, of course beautifully autographed (LOL). but i tell you what, i spent over 150RMB on postcards and postages to send them back to china first time i visited Malaysia. They are just gone, forever and ever!

  25. ahyi, that one useless.

    youtube it!
