Microsoft Vs Everybody

Today, Microsoft said:

Open-source programs step on 235 Microsoft patents.

Yes, I am not joking. Microsoft said free Linux software violates 42 patents. Graphical user interfaces, the way menus and windows look on the screen, breach 65. E-mail programs step on 15, and other programs touch 68 other patents. And Open Office, by the way, infringes on 45 patents.

Micosoft said it prefers licensing deals with open-source developers, software distributors and users instead of legal action against them. In other words, Microsoft are asking you and me to PAY them even though the software that we are using has nothing to do with the bugger. They are very kind! They don’t sue. They just want money. Oh! We are so should be eternally greatful?

If the claims above are valid, then Apple should sue Microsoft over Windows… Hey, wait a minute. If Apple sue Microsoft, then Xerox should sue Apple because Mac adopted Xerox’s Star GUI. But then the dustbin makers should sue Xerox over the dustbin/trash/recycle bin or whatever you wanna call it.

By the way, it is widely known that Microsoft views the free or low-cost Linux operating system alternatives “with a great deal of concern“.

It boils down to one question:

Do you wanna pay Microsoft to use FOSS?

  3. Tiu M$. Non-profit also they want to sue.

  4. Paul, I bet they might find a way to implicate BSD. :-)

  5. this is real “waaah…!”

need to be like that meh?

  6. to bill gates: why u so like tht …

i wanna use ahyi’s phase to greet him:”maikachaohai”

  7. Microsoft has turned into a giant uncontrollable monster. Even uncle Bill cannot control it. And I don’t think is uncle Bill’s idea…

  8. never thought that Microsoft like a beggar nowadays..

  9. ya, me agree with sam.

though i don’t read much about uncle bill, but i don’t think he will even come out with this idea, this is ‘commit suicide’ idea. uncle sam is not that ‘short-view’, otherwise he won’t be success.

  10. soli soli, typo:

  11. why uncle sam try to cover for mr gates!!!

    i like this paragraph~

    back to the question

Do you wanna pay Microsoft to use FOSS?

    most probably not
but if MS is charging only for services provided for the FOSS, then I guess most ppl will be comfortable enough with that
otherwise, if they are charging for the product, then I certainly not very interested in using that product

  13. gag!

  14. MS is not providing services to the FOSS. MS is concerned because FOSS mimic the software using experience so people now have a choice between paying Microsoft for a copy or download an equivalent from the FOSS community free of charge.

  15. To me i think their decision is reasonable though. If you are considering only software using experience, a lot of companies are doing the same thing in the past though (file lawsuits towards those small small companies or even FOSS. If you don’t believe, make one window theme that is similar to Aqua, or make one dock software for windows/linux/freebsd or whatever OS then you will receive some present from Apple. Inc), just because this time is MS (they are popular ma) so everybody is focusing on them lo :D

I think a lot of ppl dun like MS for their business decision or pricing strategy (their product bely bely expensive ner) but we kenot deny that they managed to “expose” the computing technology to the public lo.

p/s: i’m not MS fanboy anyway, so dun shoot me for “protecting” MS, I am not :D
