Flashy (cheap) new toys

Just DIY-ed a simple diffuser for my built-in flash from an empty translucent Fuji film canister, which costs nothing. And also bought a fill-in flash for macro photography that costs RM130. The fill-in flash is quite cool as it has a sensor to detect light burst from the built-in flash.
Let’s test the new things out!

Subject: Close-up of the 5-inch Birds of Paradise flower on my balcony.
In this case, I think, the direct flash (Pic #2) didn’t work well because the upper part of the flower was blocking the spread of the flash. The DIY diffuser did a great job.
With the new flash, I can use higher aperture f8, f11, f16 or even f22 (if I can still see what I am focusing) and higher shutter speed too. Let’s hope the pictures will be a bit clearer in the near future…

My sister found a dead fly when she was cleaning the house. I tried the new flashy toys and this is the result.
Note: Macro photos above were taken using a reversed 35-75mm lens (set at 50mm) with a 22mm extension tube.

cool… u took those pics at night?
btw, never knew dead flies look like that!
效果很好啊~~谢谢指教分享。
that’s the most beautiful dead fly ever!
and the diffuser only shot looks best among the lot of ‘gigi’!
Youzi, I took those pics in the morning.
KK, happy to share.
真的是走火入魔了!!
but thank you for showing how to do it…
there is an ant on the flower stem!!
did you hire the ant as model???
haha!
i look back into those pics.
i think, some how i prefer the pic with diffuser but with out flash, look more contrast.
