3 minutes & 20 seconds

Mr J, Ms Y and I went to watch Ocean’s Thirteen the other night. This is the 3rd installment of the Ocean’s series. I fell in love with the 1st one but the 2nd was not so great. Perhaps too much expectation after the 1st. But frankly, if you enjoy the 1st one… you have not reason why you won’t enjoy the 3rd. Well, I did. Enough said? haha.

Ocean’s Thirteen maintain the style and pace of the first 2. Love it! George Clooney and Brad Pitt were such a chick magnet. Too bad, no girls in the main cast this time. Just too bad.

However, Ocean’s Thirteen is not perfect. Personally, I think the “artificial intelligent” server room shutdown plot is rather… erm… are there anyword which is not worse than, but quite close to “stupid”? Ok, I might be a bit harsh on this. Let’s stick to “unconvincing” instead of “stupid”. You know what I mean? If I were Al Pacino, I mean the casino owner, I won’t be buying a system that will shut down when it “senses” threat and lock myself in for 3min 20sec during reboot. The only logical part in this plot is the 3:20 reboot. It is A.I. machine, ie. very sophiticated, so it should take a longer time to reboot.

But hey! My Windows XP also take 3:20 to boot! So my notebook computer is very sophisticated? I don’t think so. But one good thing is, it won’t lock me in the room while it is starting. I can still go out to get a cup of coffee and perhaps a donut!

Actually, before the movie, I already transferred all my work stuff to the office Mac. The movie just motivated me to reformat my notebook computer and reinstall the OS without any hesitation… I chose Ubuntu. I still got a dual boot XP in there because the computer will be used by my sister and she is not quite ready to switch. I don’t blame her, most of us grew up in the Microsoft realm, like Harry (or should he be hairy now?) Potter stuck in a spell.

My notebook now takes less than 30 secs to boot into a fully functional Ubuntu station. And I am using iMac now for office work and for my Power Book, I hardly switch it off and I can use it anytime as I wish without waiting for bootup. I am slowly (or do you think it is too drastic?) taking Windows out of my grand unification equation.

Conclusion, the casino system in Ocean’s Thirteen is not made by Microsoft. Because the whole thing took the same time as my notebook with Windows to load. Logical deduction says it is definitely not running on Windows platform.

Rachel, it is a good movie. Great retro sound track, good editing. Only the computer server room part is a bit not convincing for a techie like me. Many people don’t even question it. Hehe. Go watch it.

was the first movie even shown in Malaysia?

ubuntu is a great OS, I have been using it as my primary OS for quite some time (as I do not have to use MS Visual Studio for my assignment) 😀
